NI&S QA: Google Groups discussion. Friday, May 15th is the last day to create listserv lists. Fall semester class lists will be in Google Groups, but summer classes will still use listserv. Notes going out next week to current list owners on what to do to migrate.
TLOS: As you may or may not have heard David Adams decided to move on with his career to an exciting new position doing exactly what he loves so his last day, which is rapidly approaching, will be May 22nd. As a result of his departure the Server & Networking wing of TLOS (known usually as SNO) is now down to just two people, Myself and John Homer, until we can work through the process of restructuring and hopefully onboarding at least one person back to our staff. So during the time we are down now 2 men any request to SNO that is not mission critical will take longer than usual. We are doing the usual knowledge transfer with Dave but 9 years of experience he has gained isn't something John and I can truly comprehend in just 2 weeks. Dave will be on campus next week to say his goodbyes in case anyone wants to visit with him. (AISB and Torgersen) Anyone who is working directly with Dave on any tasks or projects should notify John or Bill to ensure continuity. Brian Broniak is management contact if either Bill or Jon Homer cannot be reached.
My second point, since Susan mentioned the summer, is regarding Scholar. Unlike in the past there will be no Scholar upgrade during commencement weekend like we've done for the past 7 years. The code base for Sakai we run on is the last stable version to be released and given the talk of migrating off of Scholar, we have made no major code changes to Scholar and our developers are now more focused on NLI (formerly FDI) applications and migration tools for a new LMS. So for our customers there will be no planned upgrades or outages over the summer like we usually perform.
The last point of potential interest is that the proposed migration away from Scholar is very aggressive from my perspective. When we meet a year from now I believe the timeline states that the University will be ready to shutdown Scholar so next year will be exciting. Details are still to be worked out obviously but I figured I would mention that just to get it on everyone's radar.
SETI Middleware: Marvin will be pushing Shib IDPv3 to prod on the 18th in Middleware's maintenance window 5-7am. This is the current plan, but this might slip as there is a meeting tomorrow.
UCS: ServiceNow update due first weekend in June to Fuji (6/6-7-/15). Major release, but work should be minimal as it's been on preprod. Cleaner look, but most changes are in areas that are not yet in full production such as Service Catalog and reporting. No real downtime.
DCM: UPS maintenance on Sunday, but no bypass required. Generator load bank schedule still up in the air, but may be within the next two weeks. In June, major PMs of the generators will be required so each generator will be out of commission for at least a day.
CNS PR: UC system upgrades. Saturday May 30th software updates will be made, but no interruption of service is expected. June 6th voicemail system will be upgraded/some inability to leave or retrieve messages. Next weekend VTRCA will have same upgrade.
Residential Network Upgrade project or RNU: Coordination will be critical. Google Groups and Google Calendars will help distribute information.
IMS: DUO testing for multi-factor authentication is in testing. Develop environment is affected.
SS SMT: Work to combine current two package backup solution is underway. Choice between Networker from EMC and TSM from IBM. Final quotes due by tomorrow.
