  • SETI/NI&S: During the week of Dec 2-6 a Microsoft Premier Support Engineer will be on-site assisting ECS-WAS and M:SIS with extending the on-premise Exchange environment to support a hybrid cloud infrastructure.  This is Phase One of the VT Office 365 project which includes extending our Exchange environment to support the ability to live migrate user mailboxes into the Microsoft Office 365 Exchange 2013 environment.  During this timeframe, production on-campus Exchange may encounter brief mail delivery delays, active sync and calendar slowness and the potential for auto discovery changes to occur.  We appreciate your flexibility during this deployment and we will work to minimize any production impacts as we improve this service.  For critical service issues related to Exchange, we will utilize the computing.vt.edu "Current Computer Status" banner and cross-post to the technical support list (Techsupport).
  • SETI: IE 11 and eTokens. Signing and approval of leave reporting is affected. IE 11 is the most recent version and needs to be run in compatibility mode with hooks similar to IE 10. Work is under way to adjust pages in play, but won't be up before Friday.
  • SMT: NAS performance issues; drives have been added and load is being spread across the new drives, but a bug has been discovered for those aggregates that are over 85% full. This affects TLOS and will be addressed. Each aggregate is being trimmed. A possible bug fix may cause an upgrade which is tentatively scheduled for the weekend of 11/23/13. Performance issues specific to TLOS and Scholar may be bandwidth related; TLOS has a private network between their servers and the NAS. This was exacerbating the load issue during backups. Now backups are on a separate network connection. There's also the possibility of making some of the network connections 10Gbps.
    • Any performances issues noticed on the NAS from this date on should be reported immediately to Wanda or her team.
  • UCS: Interesting stats from Student Svcs re: Winter Term; 1 non VT student has successfully registered (5 have attempted); 1,057 VT students have successfully registered.
    •  Should we be blocking out Winter Term as a no maintenance period? We need to at least announce and document the fact that this previous break/closing period now requires more planning for maintenance activities. IT Services will have to be reviewed for support. Each group will review the posted list; see --> https://computing.vt.edu/content/winter-closing-services* Question about calendaring: Should the IT Critical Dates calendar be at least linked to the SAMS Google calendar? Should this be announced through the iTell newsletter? What about the name? Should the VT-DNET list be informed?
