Facilities: Just a reminder that we will run a test on both data center generators on Sunday, February 19th, starting at 8am. The load transfer should be complete in 45 minutes or less.
Mike Moyer added in information about the eventual (yet to be scheduled) work to power on the new (third) electrical power feed. Although the work *should not* affect existing power, there is always a chance of some interruption. A date that will provide the least chance for disruption. Other work to tie-in shunt trip to the repo system will require a shutdown of some research equipment (HokieSpeed and SGI UV system). Mike will continue to gather info from the electricians to ensure work is staged correctly.
The group will start thinking about a date that might be less "offensive" and we will discuss this next meeting.
Discussion on how to post information re: planned (and unplanned) outages to a) one another, b) other IT reps, and c) our users. Mary is concerned that the IT Critical Dates calendar is not being used fully, although it is in more use than previously. What are our requirements? Can the wiki play a role?
Joyce shared that an upcoming change in the computing.vt.edu web site will provide a better status update for this type of thing.
Mary mentioned that Erv is in support of a hiring an intern to develop requirements and then perhaps determine if an app could be written (or found, open sourced or commercial) to provide the functionality that we need. Many questions evolved from this issue, but there is general support for the effort.
