CCS: Patch Tuesday patches are under analysis; may show up on Hokies D.C.s. May 25th is a likely target date.
NI&S PR: UC Applications upgrade scheduled for May 30-31.
System upgrades of the campus telecommunications network are scheduled for May 30 and 31, 2014.
May 30, 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. - Voicemail service interrupted:
The upgrade work will interrupt Avaya voicemail service between 6 and 8 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2014. Voicemail messages received or saved prior to the start of this work will be unavailable during the upgrade window. They may be accessed again, after 8 p.m. Voicemail received during the maintenance may be accessed throughout and following the upgrade.
May 31, 4:30 a.m. - 5 a.m. - Telephone service interrupted:
System upgrades will affect Avaya IP, digital and analog phones, fax machines, credit card readers, Rolm phones, and non-UC analog phone lines. Telephone service will be interrupted beginning at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, lasting for a half hour.
Computers with access to the network (whether connected via an Avaya phone or otherwise) will retain access throughout the upgrade.
Note: Residence hall phones may be used to call 911 during the upgrade.
Remaining system upgrades will continue until approximately 4 p.m., Saturday, May 31, and will not impact service to customers. Following the upgrades, any service issues may be referred to the Virginia Tech Operations Center at 540-231-6780.
Questions: What message will be provided to the users who check Voicemail during the outage window?
Note: Residence hall phones and most ROLM-connected “blue light” outdoor emergency phones may be used to call 911 during the outage.
“Blue light” outdoor emergency phones that will NOT work during the outage:
- B-Lot Parking Garage
- Duck Pond area
- Plantation Road
- Special Purpose Housing
- North End Center Parking Garage
- Center for the Arts
Remaining system upgrades will continue until approximately 4 p.m., Saturday, May 31, and will not impact service to customers. Following the upgrades, any service issues may be referred to the Virginia Tech Operations Center at 540-231-6780.
Cable TV switchover occurs next Monday & Tuesday, May 19th and 20th.
CNO: Ongoing changes associated with the UC upgrade; Core upgrade also being planned.
NI&S QA: Apologizes for meeting invite that announced yesterday's activity in the NOC, testing failover of RAS/VPN equipment. Should have just been an announcement, not an invitation.
Data Center Mgr: Learned some things from the power event of April 13th. Reason cable issue was found is due to the need to replace UPS batteries on the B feed. No date set yet, but desire is to have this done to pay using funds from this fiscal year. Details will be forthcoming. Same equipment that were affected on 4/13 will be involved.
Generator load tests coming up; May 28, 29, and 30th. One generator at a time, three days running, starting early in the morning.
Cassell HVAC problem mentioned as well.
