Meeting Notes
RLAN Status Updates
- There is a meeting Wednesday. March 30, 2016 with Financial Aid (Armstrong) to discuss recent incidents with their group on the RLAN, e.g., use of unapproved software.
- Action item: Greg will attempt to get a status update on secure storage for the RLAN from the Storage team.
- Having RLAN specific secure storage will allow removal of "hole in firewall" to allow access to NAS storage.
- Current number of users on the RLAN is holding steady at 200-250 users.
- Brief discussion about RLAN costing options (see 20160203 - February 3, 2016 RLAN Costing vs. behavior trade-offs meeting)
- Current preferred option is one computer with 2 NIC cards, one for RLAN and other for the Internet.
- Most likely in the future we will "grandfather" the trunk delivery option but not allow new connections by this method.
- Imogen reports there are 4 RLAN VPN users (including Brad) and this winters closings due to weather saw increased use.
- Discuss changing this RLAN status meeting to once/month. Which week?
- All present were in favor of changing this to a monthly meeting and the understanding that additional meetings would be scheduled asĀ needed.
- It was agreed to change this to the fourth Monday of each month same time and location. (3pm, RB14-115).
- Open forum
- Looking ahead to Fall 2016 we need to begin discussions of moving the RLAN to:
- IPv6
- 802.1x
