NI&S Network Engineering:

DCN migration deadline of June 28th → Note to SAMS from Steve Lee on 04/05/19

The data center in the Andrews Information Systems Building (AISB) is transitioning to a new networking architecture. This change requires you to schedule the migration of your service. The migration process is simple and some customers have already successfully moved connections.

Changes consist of new hardware and cable infrastructure, and will provide 100Gbps connectivity to the campus network and to external research and education networks. The network provides 1 and 10 Gbps interfaces to customer equipment. In addition to increased capacity, the network is designed to improve redundancy, agility and scalability.

The legacy network infrastructure has served Virginia Tech well since 2007 but no longer meets the complex demands of a modern data center. Network Infrastructure & Services (NI&S) plans to decommission the legacy network in early July 2019 and requires that customers migrate their connections to the new network before Friday, June 28, 2019.

Migration of services involves the configuration of switch ports to mirror existing configurations on network equipment and the installation of cable infrastructure installed at the rack of your service connection. Your server IP and IPv6 addresses will not need to be changed. The migration will be scheduled at your convenience and the expected downtime is measured in minutes.

CLS/LAA: (Added after the meeting)

CLS (ELK Stack) systems are coming up on maintenance time again. There should be no customer impact as these are rolling restarts. It takes approximately three days to complete all systems in this manner.

DBAA:

Windows subteam will be performing upgrades this weekend; Items are posted on the SAMS calendar.

CCS:

This weekend is a standard patching weekend 5am to 12noon.

ITEE:

Question: ServiceNow updates on a semi-annual basis. Should these be added to the SAMS calendar even though it's a cloud? Chair suggests, "YES!"

TLOS is doing this for Zoom and Kaltura.

Data Center Management:

DC Manager is offering to help interface between the network transition team and the host sys admins during the data center network migration project.

"A" feed UPS capacitors were upgraded last week, but "B" feed is scheduled this weekend after the DBAA Windows work is complete.

NetApp maintenance needs to be scheduled. Mike will meet with EPLUS (formerly known as Slait) today and post info to the group.
