Note to all members: Effective immediately, there will be dates posted on the SAMS calendar that impact when maintenance can be scheduled and performed. These are documented as "Maintenance Restricted: (Reason)" and are scheduled as "All Day Events." The next occurrence of this will be August 21st through September 4th, 2019 labeled as "Maintenance Restricted: Fall Semester Rush." Members are encouraged to alert the group of all future events that stakeholders may suggest for similar handling.
NI&S/Network Engineering Operations:
Network Maintenance (all between 5 and 7AM)
Tuesday Aug 13th - replace failing distribution switch in Patton Hall Tuesday Aug 13th - SW upgrades to Wireless in all Residence halls Tuesday Aug 13th - Configuration adjustments to the border CGNAT service to improve port block allocation efficiencies Thursday Aug 15th - SW upgrades to wireless in various campus buildings (approx half of the bldgs).
Old VPN will be shutdown on Tuesday (August 20th) (no tunnel, but will provide instructions for new client)
DHCP snooping has been engaged in AISB.
DCM:
NetApp in Roanoke will be upgraded (Software OS) on Tuesday, August 20th at 7pm. Should be transparent to users. Upgrades to this equipment will increase over time to ensure currency with latest releases is maintained.
NI&S Communications Systems:
Teams are at Holiday Express and the Inn at Virginia Tech.
NI&S Facilities:
Vet Med will experience power outage on August 19th. Steps being taken to ensure communications will recover. Load testing generators for AISB and RB XIV as well as five on-campus on the 19th and 20th of August; NoVA UPS work will be delayed until after the maintenance restricted dates are over. Data Center UPS inspection/maintenance will take place in September.
ITEE:
Fall rush is coming real soon!
NI&S MPA:
CLS ELK stack update just occurred over the last two weeks to move service closer to latest release. 17 more nodes were ingested into the CLS cluster so performance increases are just around the corner, and files should reside longer online. Splunk limit being raised to 100GB.
CCS:
Patch maintenance starts Friday (8/16) at 5pm 'til Saturday at noon. No expected impacts, but as with all things...

Description: System maintenance will be performed on the RedHat Satellite server (satellite.it.vt.edu). System patches will be applied and the system rebooted.
