Systems Support announcements--Storage Management Team

On Sunday August 15th the central NetApp storage system known as NAS, storage.vt.edu, skipper.cc.vt.edu and dominion will be unavailable from 10am to 11am to increase its storage and upgrade its microcode.

The following services that rely on the NetApp will also be down:

The Virginia Tech web site (www.vt.edu) will NOT be affected by this maintenance.

SETI:

  • On August 10th, 50 ECE faculty members will obtain eTokens for digitally signing department documents.  Graduate students will receive them at a later date. 
  • On Friday, August 27, TAS 3.0 will be deployed, and the issuance of user certificates will be unavailable until Monday, August 30.  (The Student Network Services office does not issue eTokens on Fridays, so subscribers will not be notified about this maintenance.)

CNS:

  • Wireless authentication. Planning within the next week or so (before BOV meeting) to bring up new RADIUS servers to make versions more consistent and ease management of wireless service. This should provide better service and reduce many of the drops that have been experienced. (Date to be added)

Learning Technologies:

  • LT will be shutdown from 8am until 12noon on Sunday, August 15. Several updates will be applied while the NAS maintenance is being performed.
  • Last date for Blackboard login is August 16th. After that, a phased cutoff will be deployed. By start of Fall Semester, end users must interact with OCS to obtain any data. Some movement of physical hardware from BB to Scholar will be happening as well.

Facilities:

  • Blower fan in UPS being replaced.
  • New power feed project is ongoing/a hole will be punched through the back wall and an announcement will be made to this group as well as others.

Engterprise Systems:

  • IWA: Webdist Webjob will be unavailable 8am to 4pm on Sunday 08/15, including IWA production DB. This is for hardware maintenance and ORACLE security patch installation.
