Topics:
CTSSR: EOC exercise; a drill of the Emergency Operations Center was conducted last month. This involved setting up the EOC with telephones and preparing to engage the group. It was an unannounced drill and it went fairly well. Some issues were found that will require action, but all in all it took a little over 1 1/2 hours to get everything off the ground. UCS, VTOC and NOC, as well as FE were involved.
LMs have asked about COOP. OEM has been solicited for opinions as well as the president's office. Research was listed as one of the three areas of attention. This might create a need to re-evaluate IT's approach and may cause other departments and institutes to do some work as well.
DBAA: ORACLE patches will be out tomorrow. Over the next two weeks, DBAA will be patching different instances. Notes will be sent.
SMT: Google Groups (GG) will take over Listserv. No new general lists after May 15th. All existing, active lists have had their names reserved in GG, with a name-g as opposed to name-l. Email address is name-g@vt.edu instead of name-l@listserv.vt.edu. Class lists will be created in GG as well effective this fall/summer classes will continue to use listserv. Information will be shared through Techsupport list as well as VT-News articles. Impact on PACE accounts; listserv backed PACE accounts can be converted completely. Exchange backed PACE accounts may be converted, but it really depends on the reason Exchange was used to begin with; these are being dealt with by IMS.
VNX upgrade went well over the weekend.
SETI: Google has deprecated the mail API so connector interchanges will require some adjustment. Scheduled for next Monday, April 20th, 2015. SO ED 3.5 will have to be patched instead of awaiting ED 4.0. Goal is to test in PROD 5am to 7am Wed-Fri of this week since 3.5 is only available there. Replication between ED and the mail LDAP is the main issue here. There is no ability to test without major changes in PREPROD and/or Develop instances.
Added after the meeting from email sent by Brian Long:
Google have deprecated their mail API, and these API will stop being supported on Monday, 4/20/2015.
Middleware have been testing against the new API in PPRD, but PPRD has just been upgraded to ED 4.0.
A patch will be needed for PROD ED 3.5, because ED 4.0 will not be in PROD for several weeks.
In order to accomplish this, Middleware need to test against 3.5 with the new Google mail API; the only place this can now be done is in PROD.
Middleware wish to test against the new Google API in PROD on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week (4/15, 4/16/, 4/17) from 5-7am. If there are problems on any given day, they will back the code back out. Impact may be seen in replication of mail account information for Google accounts (Exchange accounts will be unaffected).
UCS: Service Now upgrade coming. Fuji version. SETI is coming on-board soon for S/N as well.
DCM: May 17th (Sunday) semi-annual PM on the C UPS. No bypass required. Future load bank testing and generator testing will also be scheduled.
NI&S QA: Residential Network Upgrade project is coming this summer through fall. Wall-to-wall wireless plus emergency devices for direct contact with dispatch.
DCSS April 23rd. Will be available for remote viewing through MS Skype.
Note sent to IT Line Managers in March of 2015 re: SAMS membership and mission;
It has been a while since we reminded you all of the scheduling coordination group, SAMS. The charge to the group--reviewing proposed dates for deployments and maintenance, and resolving any potential conflicts—makes it important that each area is represented. Please send an alternate as needed. While we don’t want the size of the group to get unwieldy, if you have distinct areas to represent separately, that is fine. The list below is the current list of attendees and alternates.
