CSS:

1) Monthly Microsoft patch maintenance will be performed on the Central Services and VCOM Active Directory Domain Controllers as well as managed Central Services Servers and Hyper-V Failover Cluster Hosts, plus MS patches recently released.

Date: Saturday, November 15th

Date: Sunday, November 16th

Time: 5:00am - 12:00noon (for both)

The following will be unavailable may also be unavailable for 5-15 minutes at various times during the maintenance period (or this might be put off until the 29th and 30th):

BIS Hyperion Website

VT Office Communication Server

Print Services on SSPrint01

Active Directory authentication is expected to be working due to the presence of a domain controller in each domain that will not be offline. Machines that have cached their domain controller may experience delays during logins and queries due to failover.

Updated entry for CCS patching this weekend, November 15-16, 2014 (mostly to cover that critical MS patch)

CCS Production Servers Patch Maintenance

Patch maintenance will be performed on all Collaborative Computing Solutions (CCS) production servers Saturday, November 15, from 5am-12pm.

Hokies Active Directory and Hokies DNS will be available, but the following CCS services will be unavailable for 5-15 minutes at various times during the maintenance period.

 ADadmin web site
 BIS Hyperion Website
 Print Services on SSPrint01
 VCOM Exchange Email infrastructure
 VDWS
 VDWS portal web site
 VT CCS web sites
 VT Exchange Email infrastructure
 VT Office Communication Server
entire W2K-DEV and W2K-TEST forests and web sites and services

Active Directory authentication is expected to be working in Hokies, Central Services, University Services, and VCOM domains due to the presence of a domain controller in each domain that will not be offline. Machines that have cached their domain controller or are programmed to use a DNS server that will be offline may experience  delays during logins and queries.

2)  Probably some VT AD and Exchange patching but we haven’t pinned down a date for those yet.

DCM:

A reminder that we will be performing a "quarterly" load transfer test on the generators at AISB on 11/23/14 at 8am, followed by the annual PM inspection of the UPSes (which will necessitate them being placed into bypass mode, one at a time) starting at 9am. No real impacts forecast, but everyone should be aware.

CNS:

New wireless SSID, EDUROAM, will be coming online soon. This will provide ability to log in at other participating institutions using our own credentials and vice versa.

SMT:

Maintenance needed for production NetApp NAS; six or more hardware parts need to be replaced. Either Saturday, any time, or Sunday after noon (11/22 or 11/23). CFS users would have to reconnect, but NFS users should be able to remain active with a brief interruption. Some interaction with CCS will be required to possibly update A.D. entries.
