SMT:
Would like a maintenance window on Sunday, March 13 from 3am-1pm to move Enterprise NAS to a clustered storage system. The Enterprise NAS called minnow, skipper, and storage.vt.eu contains departmental and personal shares, webhosting, scholar, banner backups. I am working on a complete list, a list of changes and a timeline of events for the day.
If I cannot have both skipper and minnow, I would like to have at least minnow since it has one large department window share and several mounts for DB backups.
Added on 03/09/16:
After quick a bit of testing of mixed share (those shared by Windows and Unix), we have uncovered an issue. Since we have 20 shares that are mixed on skipper, I am backing off moving skipper to the cluster system this weekend. I still want to reserve a maintenance window for moving minnow to the cluster storage system.
TLOS:
There are 2 updates from TLOS for this month, one event which will occur before we meet next so we wanted to send a message to the list.
1) Saturday 03/05 SNO will be restarting the Scholar Oracle servers to implement security patches. Given the scale of the maintenance we are reserving the entire window of 5am until 8am during which time Scholar will be offline. A MOTD will be posted to Scholar informing users of this.
Also, last Saturday, 03/05, there will be additional Echo360 maintenance from 9am until 4pm. All service will be interrupted during this window. Apologies for the short notice, we are being hard pressed to migrate things over to ALP and this maintenance is required for that project to proceed.
2) Saturday, 03/12 from 8am to 5pm, our Echo360 system (https://echo360.tlos.vt.edu) will be offline for maintenance. Video playback will not be available during this window. This maintenance is necessary to upgrade to version 5.5 of the software suite. This is the last step required before we migrate over to the Echo ALP system.
CCS:
CCS will be deploying 2-Factor Authentication to the OWA/weboutlook, ADAdmin, and Office365/ADFS services this Friday March 11th at 6am.
UAS:
Due to an audit comment, patching will have to be conducted more frequently for the systems being managed by the team.
ITEE/CNS PR:
Some issues may evolve with logins and 2factor via HokieSpa due to a student health insurance settlement.
SIS/IMS:
On March 28th, a process will be instantiated to terminate Banner access for former employees in a more timely manner. Stems from an APA audit comment. Banner access will be locked immediately upon affiliation change. Will also accommodate job changes that require a change in Banner access. Wage employees will be handled manually.
CNS:
Lots of network maintenance this week; will continue. March 11th will include Core network maintenance. Robeson will be shutdown for electrical work on March 23rd. Main VT home page is now accessible through IPv6!
NI&S QA:
Can maintenance windows for UAS patching be scheduled in advance to notify people as far in advance as possible? Perhaps quarterly; include on SAMS calendar.
