SETI QA: Middleware will continue to push incremental updates to Login on their Monday maintenance windows. The VTAS Jira project contains pending issues. From Karen/IMS-November 16th changes for student confidentiality may be coming. (Email address will not be suppressed by default and those who are set will be reversed.) Discussion on data suppression ensued. Added after the meeting: It is a "Go" for November 16 to make the changes to student email suppression.  As soon as Rick sends the email communication that he is sending to students, it will be posted here.

SAMS as a CAB: Change Advisory/Advocacy/Approval Board–> and ITIL concept related to coordinating changes, both technical and process related, that might affect users or other IT units. SAMS has provided this role for a long time (since 2009) and will continue to coordinate this activity. Additional members will be added to the Google Group as requested and attendance at the meeting is open to all interested parties. Differentiating between projects, changes that are broadly impactful, versus internal only.

NI&S QA: VPN and wireless access still active for former employees will be curtailed; date to be determined.

DBAA: Fall Banner upgrade November 22nd, 2015.

CCS: DUO for OWA has been tested in DEV and PreProd. Servers will likely be patched this week as well.

NI&S SMT: SAN scanning now working! Needs two weekends; first is for NAS updates to NFS v4. Not supposed to affect shares; possibly Nov21st would work. Would start on the side with the lowest number of mounts, then move to side of larger number of mounts after testing. Second weekend is to add more storage to production NAS.

CNS PR: New IPv4 blocks of addresses are available. Plan is to transfer some of these to the Border NAT so as to free up others for use by internal hosts.

Added after the meeting from Jeff:

NI&S will allocate the new IP blocks as ‘outside’ addresses in our Border NAT service.  These will replace (eventually) the 198.82.x.x addresses that are currently allocated there.   Brian Jones will be leading this effort with AJ providing the technical resources.  This change will have some impact on services outside of our campus network (since we only use NAT on traffic leaving campus, it should not have any implications for on-campus services). However, a general PR “awareness" campaign to announce the change will be required along with updating some user facing documentation.   This change will affect services for certain members of the VT community and they may need to make some adjustments to accommodate.  We will contact these groups with targeted messages to ensure they are fully aware.

As mentioned, high-level, concise email communication has already taken place to make IT staff across the university aware of the impending implementation of the new addresses, advising them to look for more publicity. We have a meeting Wednesday, Nov. 18th, on the topic. An announcement appeared on computing.vt.edu in early October, as well:  https://computing.vt.edu/content/announcements.

DCM: Power testing went well last Sunday; plans to automate alerts for generators and monitor power usage.

UCS: Wintermester emergency contacts being solicited.

NI&S AA: VT Alerts applications are no longer running on virtual systems so SAN maintenance or issues will not be as impactful (no subscriptions can be done).

IT Policy and Communications: Winter closing info to be shared (will be attached to summary).
