CCS: Planning on bringing online the new version of ADadmin into production starting at 6am on Monday, 6/16. The website will be unavailable for an hour or so during that time. Not sure about Hokies Self service web site at this time.
On Tuesday, July 15th, Exchange anti-spam classification software go-live in production. Anti-virus also. An X-Header will be appended and all messages will be sent.A Town Hall meeting will likely be held before to review this with a large group.
DBAA: DBAA will be performing a summer upgrade to the Banner Student and Financial Aid modules on Sunday, June 15. See the calendar for more details https://apps.es.vt.edu/ons/event/view/1390?date=2014-06-15.
Long term, there will be a second summer upgrade to the Banner General module currently scheduled for August 3 also Sunday. All of these are to comply with regulatory requirements.
CNS: Ongoing network maintenance will continue to be announced through VT-DNET in efforts to provide for Unified Communications services, improved wireless access, additional surveillance cameras, and Ethernet for additional construction and renovation.
New VPN (RAS - Remote Access Service) service will be made available for production July 1. Legacy system not to be deprecated until September 15th.
New IPv6 capable Load Balancing solution is being lab tested. Unsure of production deployment timeline.
University cable television services are now being provided in a digital format. NI&S engineers are continuing efforts to make all the touch points necessary for 120 buildings for signal realignment before Fall classes begin. Some issues with older television receivers.
SMT: Need to reboot the NetApp, Skipper and Minnow to move it out of the AIS domain and clear a shelf fault – will June 29th or July 6th work? June 29th is preferred.
Also need to have maintenance window for the Enterprise VNX5700. Since other maintenance that EMC has performance recently was disruptive when they were supposed to be non-disruptive, we would like to plan for an outage. Maybe this Sunday, June 15th to coincide with outage of Banner for upgrade.
Data Center Manager: UPS-B failed 5/30/14. Happened during generator load bank test but not believed to be related at all. UPS failed into bypass; power was never lost. Eventually a bad capacitor was found which shorted one of the phases. Repairs completed and UPS back on line 6/3/14. We put the temporary battery cabinet into service while the UPS was already on bypass (originally planned for 6/8/14).
UPS-B Battery replacement is otherwise proceeding as planned. Enersys will be on site 6/10 and 6/11 removing old batteries and rigging. Electricians will move new battery cabinets into place and connect. Another bypass will be required (date/time/length to be determined, but soon) to bring the new batteries online, and potentially another to take the temporary cabinet into the battery room for permanent connection.
JT Packard is planning to send a tech to do semi-annual (no bypass required) PM checks on the other UPSes Thursday. They'd just like to stage him overnight for early AM Friday bypass and battery connection, assuming putting the cabinets into place and getting them wired to the switch happens smoothly/completely on Thursday.
Generator Level 2 PMs are currently scheduled for 6/18-6/20. Generators will be off-line for some period of time (trying to get an answer on that) while they get oil changes. Got to do it sometime. If there are any objections to the dates let me know ASAP. If I get an answer on the offline time I’ll follow-up. Those things take 110 gallons of oil! 2 hours for big ones/1 our for small ones.
