  • Discussion about July 26th and 27th outage. Home page for VT will be provisioned at UVA for external access. On-campus users will still be directed to on-campus resources. E-mail delays and issues will likely occur, however, as testing is still ongoing with new routing equipment.
    • Door system may be an issue as well. Master key could help with this issue. Call Center staff will also be on site so some door propping internal to the building is allowed. Security staff will be on site and Lylah will also inform the VT Police.
    • Switch rooms will also affected.
    • Lylah will also inform outside departments that have equipment on the Data Center.
    • The 8 hour window scheduled is "worst case scenario" as some work will be done in advance and whatever equipment that can be staged will be.
    • Details on the plan will be shared as they become available.
    • Robert Rankin will be involved with monitoring the switchrooms, and William will fill-in for Mike Moyer while he is on vacation.
    • Question about publicity. Should we offer stories about how this will actually affect the average users' connectivity?
      • Shopping/access to e-mail from off-campus/VPN/research collaboration between institutions/etc.
      • What about VT Alerts? Carl?
      • What about Hokie Passport?
      • Telephone system will be unaffected.
      • How does this affect NCR and NVC?
  • Discussion about ITRA and DR planning from Jean:
  • Maintenance on the EMC SAN VNX; proposed dates - June 24th for surveillance camera system; same day maintenance on Cassell VNX; affects DBAA mostly. Next day June 25th maintenance on production VNX in AISB.
    • In theory, this will not affect users, but we should be prepared.
    • This is Monday and Tuesday of week after next.
  • Thermal imaging done in Data Center and only 4 issues were discovered, 3 of which have already been addressed.
  • Data Center, Mike Moyer, will also be reporting on devices that are running, but idle and requiring large amounts of electric power. These devices will become candidates for removal.
