• Some issues with the generator test; transfer switch difficulty, was overcome.
    • Research UPS had an alarm due to a blower fan needing to be replaced. Three large fans are still working so issue was not overly concerning. Work will be accomplished on February 11 along with a battery PM. Little to no interruption of service is expected.
  • WSUS client was deployed a week ahead of the old one expiring; week of January 20th.
  • BlackBoard update?
  • Outside plant was affected because of a steam leak in late January. Ring fiober was only a few feet away from the problem, but the work was accomplished without incident. A lot of prep work (Disaster Recovery planning) was done in case the steam leak had become large enough to impact telecommunications on campus.

New Business:

  • CNS Network Engineering:
    • Spring Break -- week of March 7th -- MLX routers/switches are going through a software upgrade. Two short outages that will affect all three units and therefore all of the Data Center will be scheduled with the assistance of the other IT units.
    • Closet and building areas (targeted) will have some edge device replacement and port consolidation; ongoing over the next 6-8 months. Switches being received are damaged and so being refused. Project is being delayed until a good shipment is received.
    • Wireless issues: VT WLAN (the one that requires authentication) is having problems. An error occurs at login and sometimes the connection is dropped unexpectedly. New hardware is being received to distribute load better. Some sort of threshold (over 1000 users where a batch of 200 or more) is being reached on the equipment. VT Wireless issues, dropped connections and needing to load a new cert, also exist. Other workarounds are under development. Users should report issues on either system; capture time of day, and specifics and report to Diagnostics/4Help.
  • DBAA:
    • Nothing major planned for DBAA.
  • CNS Telephony:
    • New E911 system cutover in March. To be integrated with reginal 911. Will especially help wireless callers to correctly reach the VT PD.
  • SETI:* Nothing in Feb, but March 7 (Spring Break Sunday) cutover to new version of open LDAP from 2.3 to 2.4. * IMS:
