Systems Support/Storage Management Team: We have three upgrades/maintenance activities that need to be performed

1.       SAN fabric Upgrade – upgrade the microcode on the Cisco MDSs.  Exchange and the mirapoints for junk mail will be down. The plan is to upgrade one MDS at a time, so only one FC path to the servers/storage will be down. Once system admins, dbas, and application admins confirms the upgrade is a success, the second MDS will be upgraded. The estimated time is 4 hours
2.       Upgrade of the EMC VNX5700 where Oracle databases, Banner, Email resides. This will add the flash disk drives to the cache. Some services may need to be brought down.
3.       NetApp hardware and software upgrade. I had originally asked for June 14/15, however while working with the NetApp engineer yesterday we discovered the new filer heads did not enough 1G Ethernet ports to accommodate the connection to Ed Tech’s private network. I will need to get a 1G Ethernet adapter. We are estimating the upgrade to take 4 to 5 hours.

After talking with different people and groups, we would like to do these upgrades the same weekend, July 14 and 15.
-On July 14 - The upgrade of the SAN fabric will be done first. Once this is completed, upgrade the VNX5700;
-On July 15  - NetApp hardware and software upgrade.

These dates have received pushback, however, so new dates need to be identified. New dates July 28 and 29. Posted to Critical Dates calendar.

SETI/QA:Info has been posted to TechSupport. On June 20th between 6am and 8am; the cert for ED-LDAP systems will be upgraded. This will mainly impact password changes that won't propagate until the maintenance (same impact on addresses, and other info changes).

IMS: Google Apps date for opening up transfer has shifted; this will allow users to move their own email content. Goal is to not pass PID/pswd. This will not be June 17th, 2012, but it won't be too long after. Goal is to use Google Apps password instead, which Google already has. During 30 day transition period, they would use Google Apps password to get to VT Webmail as well. When a new date is set, this page will be updated.

DBAA: Lots of Banner upgrades; August 5th will be next big one; patches to production hosts. Hosts will be down for 1-1 1/2 hour periods early in the morning. Apache updates also coming; CMS, ES Reverse Proxy, and Web hosting also going to be done soon. PostGres prod will be upgraded on July 25th. CAS uses this.

SAMS Tool: Two IT (Nicole and Susan) interns are working this summer. Gathering a matrix of IT services to translate into user facing names. Also gathering requirements for posting, something easier than IT Critical Dates calendar; something that allows for multiple posting methods (Tweeting, TeschSupport, etc.), moderation if necessary, etc. Interns will attend next meeting if possible. Ken McCrery will probably choose the calendar type -- maybe Bedework (Open Source).

UCS expresses frustration about change of date for the Google Apps transfer, as well s some My VT Chap tool password for wireless access. Account Manager screen in My VT was supposed to change all at one time, so connected even though not really.
