Application Management/LZ: Atlas will move to new VMs on July 20th, 5am-7am. NI&S plan to perform maintenance on ATLAS on Wednesday July 20th.  ATLAS should be unavailable from 05:00 to 07:00.  During this time we’ll upgrade Oracle version and move to a new VM system.  Please let me know asap if anyone has concerns and/or questions with this date and time.

ITEE (by way of email from Kevin Davis):  A ServiceNow upgrade is planned for the first week in August (exact time TBD).  This will bring some new features to licensed users, and a new service portal interface for the customers.  We plan to have an open demo later this month for anyone interested.

UAS/TR: Research Computing will be down for a storage diagnostic upgrade; July 25th beginning at 2pm (Monday), should be back online by CoB Wednesday.

CCS/SC: July 16th, patches will begin to be pushed to pooled Exchange servers (Cumulative update 13; Hubble will be first) beginning at 5am. Following weekend (7/23/16) will be reserved for remainder if all goes well. Also MS patches will be applied.

Monthly Microsoft patch maintenance will be performed on select CCS

servers on Saturday, July 16, from 5am-10am.

The following CCS services will be unavailable for 5-15 minutes at

various times during the maintenance period:

ADadmin web site

CNTRLSRVS Active Directory Domain Controllers (DCs)

Print Services on SSPrint01

VCOM Exchange Email infrastructure

VCOM VC DCs

VDWS portal web site

VT CCS web sites

VT Exchange Email infrastructure

Active Directory authentication is expected to be working in Central

Services and VCOM domains due to the presence of a domain controller

in each domain that will not be offline. Machines that have cached

their domain controller or are programmed to use a DNS server that

will be offline may experience delays during logins and queries.

Note the VT Exchange servers themselves are being patched along with

their support infrastructure.  The exchange patching will occur at 4am-10am

with an expected duration of  1 hour and users will experience a

short Exchange service outage (~5min) for the duration of the server reboots

If you experience issues with these services after the scheduled

maintenance, please contact 4help.

Saturday Morning, July 16th at 5am we'll roll out the first of a series of staggered updates of Exchange Cumulative Update 13.  We're pushing it out to the Exchange server with the fewest number of users on it, HUBBLE, first, then pushing more patches the following weekends.  If things proceed well as we've seen in our dev and test environments on this first production server, we are planning on pushing out the Cumulative Update to all the rest of the servers the next weekend.

The CU patching of HUBBLE will take approximately 1 hour to complete and there will be a service interruption for the users on that single server for the duration of the patching.

DBAA/RQ: Financial Aid patch this Sunday (on SAMS calendar); a SLACK channel has been created for the Division of IT (link to be included); perhaps a SAMS channel can be created. Open to anyone at VT.EDU (VTDOIT). Browser and app based for multiple device types. Sign up link is here–>

Also Banner upgrades are planned for this weekend:

The follow database will be unavailable on Sunday 7/17/16 from 6AM until 9AM due to maintenance:

  Banner (PROD)

Also the following develop web applications will be unavailable during this maintenance:

   web for student

   web for employee

   web forms

   leave reporting

   web password change

The following upgrade will be installed:

  Finaid 8.26.1

Please direct questions, concerns, etc. to the DBAA staff (dbaa@vt.edu).

SIS/KH: eTokens will soon be eliminated for DAT use. Dates to follow.

TLOS/BdW: WebEx server upgrade is scheduled for 7/25. Should not impact use of service.

SMT/WB: Skipper/NAS upgrade advertisement is being planned/communications options; tentative schedule for move is July 30th (10-12 hours); August 14th or 20th for upgrade which will take the most time (but Fall classes start on August 22nd). Could do both activities on same weekend, however. What can be done in advance will be to lower risk. WB will work with RQ and BdW to reduce services that might be impacted and taken down.

NI&S/JK: VTPD dispatchers will be moving to the regional 911 center tomorrow.
