Topic from the CIO→ "Blackout dates":  Due to an unforeseen event that caused downtime which occurred during maintenance activity on Tuesday, April 16th, we have been asked to consider "blacking out" certain key dates from scheduling maintenance. The group has been doing this on an unofficial basis since its inception, so this is not a big deal overall. Making it more official/more formal is a good idea.

Providing a view to the SAMS calendar may be a good idea.

Looking at services, particularly infrastructure services, and how they impact other services needs to be analyzed.

Improving communication when events occur to ensure appropriate messages are sent to the users.

Should we think of another term other than "black out"?

No maintenance impacting XYZ service will occur. "Maintenance restriction dates."

Chair will update calendar, but members are encouraged to do so if they feel so inclined. Please communicate

DBAA:

Richard has already added the DB Warehouse load activity to the calendar along with its dependencies.

May 19th, approximately bi-monthly, Banner update will be performed.

Data Center Management:

Major maintenance is needed on the NetApp. First in Roanoke (mainly affecting DBAA), then in AISB. Probably 8 hours for the AISB; Roanoke may only be 2 hours or so. May try afternoon of May 19th if Banner upgrade is complete.

Word to the wise: Smaller, more frequent maintenance is easier to pull off than large, long periods.

Load Bank testing for Generators will take place during the week of May 20th. Should be completely transparent to users.

IT Communications:

Should the list of dates be vetted by others? Line Managers, for example? Chair will place this on an agenda for discussion with LMs. Dates will be shared, via the SAMS calendar with UniRel as well.

CCS:

Due to Commencement during patch week, the CCS team is postponing any potential user-impact patching that normally occurs on Saturday to instead be done on Sunday.  There will still be some patching performed on Saturday but reserved for systems that would have no user impact if there were a problem.
