Meeting Notes

  1. Review action items and comments from 20130429 - April 29, 2013 RLAN Project Status Meeting
    1. Action item: Ron will check with Bill Blevins on the 6 connections for the AISB.
      1. Ron reports that they are working on switching ports from UC phone ports to RLAN ports.
    2. Action item: Phil Benchoff, Steve Lee and other will discuss ICMP and test it's use on the RLAN.
      1. See Network Border
      2. Steve will talk some more about ICMP with Phil.
  2. Follow up on non-business hours support
    1. Reference, see meeting note 7.a. 20130429 - April 29, 2013 RLAN Project Status Meeting
    2. Talking with Jeb and he thinks there are "special times" like graduation, grades, etc. when support may need to be extended.
    3. Will NI&S be able to bill for these "special times" if outside normal business hours?
    4. What is critical and what needs to be supported when?
    5. Why is this any different than any other network problem on the open network? Can the same already established business process be used for RLAN as is used for the open network?
    6. We suspect that the biggest request will be for whitelist (firewall) access after 5pm or on the weekends.
    7. Unless told otherwise the business process to follow for the NOC is to treat this like any other network problem/request. If it should be treated differently we need to work out that business process. Action item: Greg will add this to the agenda for the Communications and Collaboration Steering Committee meeting on 5/21/2013.
  3. Update on orders written that need to be installed in this initial Pilot Phase? If not discuss who will follow up with departments AND CNS O&P to make sure that happens as soon as possible.
    1. The ITSO is working with the Registrar's office on dates for installation/cutover. NI&S needs approval of these connections from ITSO so orders can be written. Action item: Rich thought that by tomorrow (5/14/2013) or the next day dates should be set and he will work with Ron and O&P to get the orders completed.
    2. ITSO is also working out dates for Financial Aid connections.
    3. Bursar's office connections are completed.
  4. Review status of project deliverables:
    1. The project team agreed that all project deliverables are complete but are being refined and tweaked.
  5. Open Forum
    1. Bursar's office is adding machines to the RLAN slowly and deliberately. NI&S would like them to test all connections.
    2. Marc DeBonis' component of this project:
      1. There is some question whether Marc's thin client is actually on the open network or connected to the RLAN? Action item: A diagram or description of how the CSDI pilot works is needed.
      2. Is Marc's CSDI pilot using the RLAN firewall (whitelist) or its own?
      3. Action item: Rich will contact Marc and discuss the CSDI pilot and it's relationship to the RLAN pilot. Greg will invite Marc to the next RLAN meeting to give an overview of how the CSDI pilot works and how it corresponds or fits with the RLAN processes being implemented.
    3. There was a discussion about how to monitor computers/connections on the RLAN that are using "tagged packets". Ron is going to see what information is in the logs for each computer, Jacob mentioned that we may be able to configure the switches(???) to record more information in the logs.
