Subject: Important Notice - - Leave Report - Digital signature project

Starting in October 2006, Information Technology (IT) will begin participating in a program that uses digital signatures for online leave reports.  This will replace the paper leave report with your signature in ink with an electronic equivalent that provides a high level of assurance in the identity of the person who signs the report. The Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) team plans to phase in IT units into this program throughout the fall.  The planned implementation is:

Leave report 9 (Sept. 10-Oct. 9) SETI and Security Office will digitally sign, due by October 16, 2006.

Leave report 10 (Oct. 10-Nov. 9) the rest of IT will digitally sign, minus NI&S, due by November 16, 2006.

Leave report 11 (Nov. 10-Dec. 9) NI&S will digitally sign, due by December 16, 2006.

Employees will be issued a USB token (an Aladdin eToken) which contains their personal digital certificate and allows you to digitally sign your online leave report.  The CNS Student Telecommunications office will issue the eTokens prior to the leave report due dates above.  In order to be issued an eToken you are required to present two forms of photo identification, one of which must be a valid Hokie Passport.  A valid Hokie Passport has the 9 digit VT identification number, not your social security number (SSN).  If your SSN is still on your Hokie Passport or if you do not have a Hokie Passport, please go to the Student Services building and get a Hokie Passport with your VT identification number on it.
