Agenda items:UCS-contributed Agenda Items:

  1. What does light on token indicate/or lack of light? (Joyce L. - token NOT lit in vista desktop, does light on laptop...intermittent h/w problem??)
  2. Why is 10.5 not production? It must be before we roll out!
  3. We may have had SOME 10.5 mac users who blew along and installed 10.4 script - which MAY have hosed their machines.
  4. We must have an uninstall script that works. Older version doesn't remove everything and new version doesn't work. This is critical.
  5. What are documentation issues that are outstanding?
  6. Can we announce the 10.5 installer when we send expiration email? This might be a good test w/in IT
  7. Ish still needs to install TAS Role Mgr software for Anne and Carol.
  8. What is purpose of university-wide deployment? Will ALL be required, as departments, to use online leave signing?
  9. What are the future plans for using etokens?
  10. What will be the "support model" for future uses?
  11. Students are unable to assist w/support as they are not eligible.
  12. We must have a path of escalation:
    • Call about pki/pdc/etokens comes in
    • We can assist with uninstall (with working tools) and reinstall
    • Beyond that, we need mechanism to escalate
    • We suggest a pace account to email all ticket information straight from Remedy
    • We require a path of escalation, defined as transfer guidelines, for everything we support
    • We also need CLEAR path of escalation for work flow vs. technical calls (HRIS helpdesk??? What goes to IRM??)
  • No labels

  1. Mary Dunker

We met and concentrated on answering the questions. Here are the answers, as Mary recalls...

    1. A solid light means there is power to the eToken from the computer. Flickering light means the eToken is being accessed. If the driver is not installed, there is no light. Lights inconsistent with the meaning described probably indicates a defective eToken.

    2. Installer form Mac 10.5 has been improved and is in production as of 9/30/2008.

    3. We would need to know more about 10.4 script hosing machines in order to investigate.

    4. A working uninstaller has been bundled with the Mac installer. As of 10/16/2008, Kim is checking on Windows. (Was this question directed to Mac or Windows or both?)

    5. Computing.vt.edu article should point to www.pki.vt.edu/PDC FAQs. SETI TAD will develop instructions for using digital signatures with commercial products. Instructions can be turned into KB articles.

    6. Expiration notice will include instructions to download latest version of installers.

7.TAS Role Mgr. SW installation is in progress as of 9/29/2008.

    8. University-wide deployment is to remove barriers for those departments with a need for digital signatures. Leave reporting will not be expanded until/unless HR drives the project.

    9. eTokens offer a higher level of assurance in a person's identity than ID/password. Users of online applications must be allowed to use PDC on eToken if the applicatioin provider wishes to support them.  So far, there are 6500 eTokens -- enough for employees likely to need them, but not enough for all students.

    10. IT should support their use with commercial, off-the-shelf products that work with PKI-based digital signatures and x.509 authentication. TAD will work with 4Help to determine which products and versions to test and support. examples are signing .pdf, Word, Excel, .ppt, e-mail.

    11. Student wage employees are eligible to obtain PDC on eToken.

    12. 4Help receives initial calls. Escallates token-related questions to eProvisioning, using new VT Pace address eprov@vt.edu that will send e-mail to eProv team. Workflow problems escallate to IRM. Leave reporting problems escallate to HRIS service desk.
