Meeting Notes

  1. RLAN Status Updates

    1. There is a meeting Wednesday. March 30, 2016 with Financial Aid (Armstrong) to discuss recent incidents with their group on the RLAN, e.g., use of unapproved software.
    2. Action item: Greg will attempt to get a status update on secure storage for the RLAN from the Storage team.
      1. Having RLAN specific secure storage will allow removal of "hole in firewall" to allow access to NAS storage.
    3. Current number of users on the RLAN is holding steady at 200-250 users.
    4. Brief discussion about RLAN costing options (see 20160203 - February 3, 2016 RLAN Costing vs. behavior trade-offs meeting)
      1. Current preferred option is one computer with 2 NIC cards, one for RLAN and other for the Internet.
      2. Most likely in the future we will "grandfather" the trunk delivery option but not allow new connections by this method.
    5. Imogen reports there are 4 RLAN VPN users (including Brad) and this winters closings due to weather saw increased use.
  2. Discuss changing this RLAN status meeting to once/month. Which week?
    1. All present were in favor of changing this to a monthly meeting and the understanding that additional meetings would be scheduled as  needed.
    2. It was agreed to change this to the fourth Monday of each month same time and location. (3pm, RB14-115).
  3. Open forum
    1. Looking ahead to Fall 2016 we need to begin discussions of moving the RLAN to:
      1. IPv6
      2. 802.1x
